Battery - A life changing device

Battery is a source of electrical power which produces electricity from chemicals. It contains many electrical cells linked together. A battery has two terminals. One is a positive terminal and the other a negative. Inside the battery, a chemical reaction produces electrons. This collects in the negative terminal of the battery. For the chemical reaction to take place the electrons must flow from the negative terminal to the positive terminal. This can happen when a wire is connected between the two terminals.
The Zinc carbon battery is the standard battery used in all AA, C and D dry cell batteries. Batteries are used for torches, radios, cameras and many other devices. Duracell is a brand of battery widely used. It is manufactured by Procter and Gamble. They are alkaline batteries sold in different sizes – AAA, AA C, D AND 9V.  The lesser used ones which are also manufactured by Duracell are AAAA and J sized batteries.
Being innovative, Duracell has designed prismatic batteries. As the name suggests, they are prismatic in shape rather than cylindrical. These are available in alkaline and lithium design.
Rechargeable batteries are ones, where the electrochemical reactions are electrically reversible. They come in different sizes and combinations of chemicals.  Though rechargeable batteries cost more initially, they are economical as they can be recharged and used. Unlike primary cells, rechargeable batteries have to be charged before use. The number of times a battery can be recharged depends on the operating parameters, such as drain rate, battery care etc.
The Battery is used domestically and commercially.
